Combat Basics
Nioh 3 uses a stance-based combat system. Each weapon has three stances (High, Mid, Low) with different movesets, damage, and Ki consumption. Mastering stance switching and Ki Pulse timing is essential for success.
Ki Pulse
Press R1 after attacking to recover Ki instantly. Core technique for all builds.
Stance Switching
High = damage, Mid = balanced, Low = speed. Switch based on the situation.
Burst Counter
Counter enemy red-glow attacks. Timing varies by guardian spirit type.
Perfect Guard
Block at the moment of impact to reduce Ki damage and enable counters.
For detailed mechanics, see the combat sections in our starter guide.
